Biographical Sketch

Pengfei Ding is a data science workflows architect at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he has been serving since November 2023. In this role, he works closely with domain scientists to use high performance computing (HPC) resources at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), optimizing user environments on supercomputers to enhance scientific productivity. Previously, Pengfei was an application physicist at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) from 2019 to 2023, where he developed software for the DUNE data acquisition systems and conducted physics analysis on neutrino experiments. From August 2014 to March 2019, he worked as a research associate at Fermilab. His work included developing operations software for the NOvA data acquisition systems, performing neutrino physics data analysis, and serving as a liaison to then Fermilab’s Scientific Computing Division.

Pengfei earned his Ph.D. in particle physics from The University of Manchester in 2013. His research included measuring the Z Boson’s rapidity distribution and searching for R-parity violation sneutrinos. He obtained a B.Sc. and attended the Special Class for the Gifted Young at the University of Science and Technology of China.
