NERSC Summer Internships
NERSC hosts a number of paid student interns every summer in a range of science and computing domains. The program is now taking applications from interested graduate and undergraduate students for summer 2025.
NERSC's 2025 summer research projects have yet to be posted, but you may refer to our list of 2024 summer research projects for examples of typical research opportunities we provide and the preferred or required qualifications.
Eligibility
Applicants must be U.S.-based students actively enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. Desired technical qualifications are determined by NERSC mentors and vary from project to project.
Compensation
For direct hires through Berkeley Lab, undergraduate students’ hourly wages range from up to $23.42 and up to $45.38 for graduate students, depending upon years of education completed. Applicants are responsible for housing and travel expenses. We are unable to provide additional support for housing.
How to Apply
There are a number of pathways and programs to pursue summer research at Berkeley Lab. However, most of NERSC’s summer interns are hired directly by the Lab. You must be employed through one of these programs and be accepted by the project’s mentor(s) to do research at NERSC.
