Student and Faculty Programs

NERSC supports the scientific and computing communities with programs for visiting students and faculty. These programs benefit participants and sponsors by offering valuable research experiences, expanding the pool of early-career researchers, and fostering lasting professional connections.

Summer internships

Each summer, NERSC offers paid internships that allow participants to collaborate with NERSC staff on various science and technology research projects. These positions are open to undergraduate, graduate, and faculty applicants. Applications typically open in November for the following summer’s program. 

Sustainable Research Pathways

The Sustainable Research Pathways program, which consists of a fast-paced matching workshop followed by a rigorous two-month research collaboration, connects scientists from a range of backgrounds with Berkeley Lab staff scientists to encourage the formation of research partnerships.
